sunset amherst island 20 nov 08BW Folger

So Sean and I headed over to Amherst Island yesterday to see if we could find the access road to fish point. The goal was to open up a new shore dive to the wreck of the BW Folger in 30 feet of water. The BW Folger is a smaller schooner only 83 feet long, but a new shore dive for people to enjoy make trips like this enjoyable and worth the time.

The BW Folger burnt to the waterline just off Fish Point on Amherst Island on 11/24/1894 while loaded with a cargo of lumber for Oswego NY. Apparently a lantern fell over and caught fire.

Unfortunately following the advice of a local telling us not to go in any wooded area due to hunting and poaching at this time of year we then decided to cruise the Island.

As we were getting back on the ferry I took this shot.
